Who we are

CAQA Northgate Police Service, policing and community safety

CAQA Northgate Police Service is a district policing service responsible for community safety across the Northgate policing district in outer northern Melbourne. The district covers established suburbs, new housing estates, a regional shopping precinct, two freeways and a growing industrial area. The service responds to calls for assistance, investigates crime, delivers road policing, manages persons in custody, and works with schools, councils, businesses and community groups to prevent harm before it happens. Members deal with everything from family violence and burglary through to serious collisions, missing persons and public order at large events.

The service is organised into six functional areas: District Command and Governance, General Duties Response, Community Engagement and Liaison, the Criminal Investigation Unit, Road Policing and Crash Investigation, and Protective Services and Custody. General Duties runs a 24-hour roster of four rotating shifts from the district headquarters and Northgate East station. Road policing operates from the highway patrol base with a focus on the freeway corridors and the industrial precinct. Investigators, intelligence analysts and the community engagement team work core business hours with on-call arrangements for critical incidents.

Integrity

Members act honestly, record events accurately and accept scrutiny of their decisions.

Fairness

Every person is treated with respect and without discrimination, whatever their circumstances or history with police.

Safety

Members protect the public, the people in their care and each other, and never accept an avoidable risk.

Service

The community comes first, and members work with partners to prevent harm rather than only respond to it.
