Continuity
The unbroken, documented chain of custody of an exhibit from seizure to court that proves it has not been altered or substituted.
Welfare check
A physical observation of a person in custody at a set interval to confirm they are responsive and safe, recorded at the time it is made.
Operational order
The written plan that authorises a planned policing operation, setting out the situation, mission, execution, administration and command.
Dynamic risk assessment
The continuous assessment a member makes on arrival at and during an incident to identify hazards and choose the safest tactic.
Body worn camera
A camera worn on the uniform that records interactions and must be activated whenever a member is likely to exercise a power.
Brief of evidence
The collection of statements, exhibits and records prepared by the investigating member for the prosecution of a charge.
Independent third person
An adult who attends a police interview to support a young person or a person with a cognitive impairment and to ensure they understand their rights.
Preliminary breath test
A roadside screening test for alcohol using a calibrated device that, if positive, leads to an evidentiary test at a station or bus.
Intelligence product
A written assessment that analyses information to describe a pattern, threat or risk and recommends action, issued with a dissemination marking.
Scene log
The record kept at an incident scene of every person who enters and leaves, with times and reasons, used to prove the scene was protected.
